Proven by Science: The Best Workout for Heart Health
Cardio or Weights? New Research Says: Do Both.
If you’ve ever wondered what’s better for your heart - cardio or resistance training - a new 2024 study in the European Heart Journal has a clear answer:
Both. Together.
Researchers followed 406 adults (ages 35–70, all with overweight or elevated blood pressure) for a year. All participants received heart-healthy nutrition guidance, and were divided into four groups:
Cardio-only
Resistance training-only
A combination of both
No exercise
After a year, only two groups showed a real drop in heart disease risk: the cardio group and the combo group.
But here's the clincher:
The combo group improved both heart health and muscle strength - with the same heart benefits as cardio-only.
In short: you don’t need to choose between heart and strength. A blend of cardio + resistance is a power combo - especially when done consistently.
How This Ties Into My Training Philosophy
This is exactly why I design my online workouts the way I do - combining cardio, strength, and Pilates movement to create a well-rounded, time-efficient, body-loving experience.
I train people to:
Strengthen their heart
Build lean muscle mass
Improve posture and core control
Boost circulation and energy
Prevent injury and move with ease
And ultimately, feel better in their bodies
You don’t need to train like an athlete. You just need a smart, enjoyable routine that you can actually stick with.
